Silje Chantel is a photographer and writer based in Oslo. Her practice moves fluidly between the photographic and the spatial — from intimate intaglio deep-prints to large-scale commissions transferred onto micro-perforated acoustic canvas that both fills and quiets a room.
Her work is currently installed at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Vincci, Shearwater Geoservices, DOF Subsea and in office spaces as well as private residencies. The photographic series PERIFER was exhibited at Lysverket in KODE Art Museum during Festspillene/Bergen International Festival in 2023. The works are hand-crafted, stamped, and numbered in limited editions.
Combining photography with written portrait pieces she applies extensive experience photographing and interviewing for Norwegian and international publications such as D2, Wallpaper, The Times Luxury, Kapital, Residence, Nytt Rom and ELLE.
Classically trained in analogue portrait photography and darkroom practices, she holds a profound appreciation for the handmade and tactile qualities of her craft. Her academic background in Art History provides contextual understanding that enriches and informs her practice.
With her Nordic heritage, she uncovers subtle dynamics and hidden layers of the natural world, organic surfaces, and the quiet presence of people. Her images holds several distinctions and rewards from Norges Fotografforbund (NFF).
